Per Session Law 2018-146, county boards of elections in North Carolina are composed of five appointed members. Four members are appointed by the NC State Board of Elections: two Democrats and two Republicans. The Chair is appointed by the Governor. The Board is responsible for the administration of Elections and Related Laws and Rules of North Carolina. The Director, upon recommendation of the Board, is appointed by the State to advise and provide administrative oversight of the elections department. On the Tuesday following the third Monday in August of the year in which they are appointed the county board of elections shall meet and appoint precinct chief judges and judges of elections.
The board may hold other meetings at such times as the chairman of the board, or any two members thereof, may direct, for the performance of duties prescribed by law. A majority of the members shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of board business. The chairman shall notify, or cause to be notified, all members regarding every meeting to be held by the board.
All meetings will be held in the New Hanover County Board of Elections office located at 230 Government Center Drive, Suite 34, Wilmington, NC 28403, unless otherwise indicated in the board meeting notice.
