May 16-17, 2022 Special Meeting Notice

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC –  The New Hanover County Board of Elections will be meeting on Monday, May 16, 2022 at 5:00 PM in the Longleaf Room at the Board of Elections Office, located at 1241 A Military Cutoff Road, Wilmington, NC 28405, to review absentee ballot applications and discuss other election-related matters as needed. The New Hanover County Board of Elections will also be meeting on May 17, 2022, at 2:00 PM to count absentee ballots and discuss other election-related matters.

Those who wish to participate in the May 16, 2022, meeting telephonically can do so by dialing 1-336-218-2051 at 5:00 PM. When prompted for the Conference ID press 613 054 210 followed by pound (#). This meeting will be available for public viewing via Microsoft Teams, those who wish to join the meeting via teleconference can do so by clicking the live stream link here.

Those who wish to participate in the May 17, 2022 meeting telephonically can do so by dialing 1-336-218-2051 at 2:00 PM. When prompted for the Conference ID press 269 193 048 followed by pound (#). This meeting will be available for public viewing via Microsoft Teams, those who wish to join the meeting via teleconference can do so by clicking the live stream link here.

For the upcoming Board of Elections meetings, individuals can submit public comments in advance to newhanover.boe@nhcgov.com (noting the board name in the subject line) by May 15, 2022 at 12:00 PM. Written comments will be provided to the board and the board chair will acknowledge receipt during the public hearing or submit comments into the record during the public hearing and/or public comment period.

A draft agenda for these meetings will be posted here once they become available. The New Hanover County Board of Elections reserves the right to amend this agenda at their discretion. 

Per Session Law 2018-146, county boards of elections in North Carolina are composed of five appointed members.  Four members are appointed by the NC State Board of Elections: two Democrats and two Republicans.  The Chair is appointed by the Governor.  The Board is responsible for the administration of Elections and Related Laws and Rules of North Carolina.  The Director, upon recommendation of the Board, is appointed by the State to advise and provide administrative oversight of the elections department. On the Tuesday following the third Monday in August of the year in which they are appointed the county board of elections shall meet and appoint precinct chief judges and judges of elections.

The board may hold other meetings at such times as the chairman of the board, or any two members thereof, may direct, for the performance of duties prescribed by law. A majority of the members shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of board business. The chairman shall notify, or cause to be notified, all members regarding every meeting to be held by the board.

All meetings will be held in the New Hanover County Board of Elections office located at 1241A Military Cutoff Road, Wilmington, NC 28405, unless otherwise indicated in the board meeting notice.
